J.P., Co-Founder and Owner of Studio 58, recently appeared on The 2 Kinky Women Podcast with Midnight Lady and Mistress Gabrielle to discuss event management and consent practices at Studio 58.
Studio 58 is renowned for organizing special events and adult education for individuals over 18 years old to express themselves authentically and explore their sexuality and relationships without prejudice in safe, well-managed environments. Their events include the hotel takeovers Naughty Gras and Naughty Noel, the cabin camping event Naughty in Nature (featuring indoor plumbing and hot showers), as well as regularly scheduled parties, munches, and “Sipping Social” meet-ups.
During the interview, J.P. emphasized the crucial role of the crew and mindset in handling larger events. He highlighted the preparedness of the staff for emergencies and their relationships with local agencies. J.P. stressed the importance of understanding and signing detailed waivers before entering the events, as well as ensuring consensual safety during the shows.
“We insist people come to the vetting circles before fire play, needles, blood play, wax, and water bondage,” noted J.P. “We saw a massive amount of new people, who had never been to an event before, post-covid… So we decided to start doing the vetting circle, so we could articulate to those people the information we had on paper. So we knew they didn’t just glance over it.”
When asked about trends in the scene, the acceptance of kink in mainstream society, and the crossover of the BDSM community with the swinger lifestyle, J.P. shared insights gained from his experience. He also discussed the importance of educating guests on consent at Studio 58 events.
“While we do our tours, we show people the major areas and how to navigate around,” assured J.P. “While we are doing that, we’re talking about consent. We’re talking about etiquette. My tour guide is interacting with these people… If you educate, educate, educate, folks will act like adults.”
